Participants will engage in four pre-arranged school visits, observing best practices in equity and inclusion. You will have the chance to interact with school staff and board members, learning about the strategies and supports that help all learners reach their fullest potential.
In addition to the educational components, the tour includes engaging group activities. Enjoy a trip to Niagara Falls, where you will experience the awe-inspiring beauty of this natural wonder while building connections with fellow educators. You’ll also explore the vibrant city of Toronto with a guided tour, visiting iconic landmarks and cultural hotspots to enrich your understanding of the local context.

Expanding our Understanding of Success Through the Lens of Indigenous Perspectives and our Shared Responsibilities
Participants will engage in learning and conversation focused on building and expanding understandings of success, through meaningful dialogue focused on responsibilities, the Truth and Reconciliation (TRC) Calls to Action, This session will help school leaders identify ways to create space in schools for this critical awareness and conversation.
Participants will engage in self-reflection and better understand unconscious bias and explore the significance of their own learning stance. Through discussion and collaboration, participants will gain deeper insights on facilitating courageous conversations.
Participants will gain a greater understanding and reflect on ways to centre the needs of the most vulnerable and underserved students in program planning. Learning will focus on refining their understanding of Universal Design for Learning strategies and how they are foundational to create equitable spaces for all learners to grow and reach their fullest potential.
The 4-day study tour will include four pre-arranged school visits with a focus on highlighting best practices in Equity and Inclusion. Participants will observe and interact with school board and school staff to experience the implementation of equity and inclusion strategies, supports and resources in action.

The Toronto District School Board (TDSB) is proud to welcome international delegates from around the globe. As the largest public school board in Canada with 583 schools throughout the City of Toronto serving approximately 235,000 students (regular day time) and more than 100,000 life-long learners in Adult and Continuing Education programs, the Toronto school board is renowned worldwide.

Cultural Immersion Activities

A day trip from Toronto to Niagara Falls promises a spectacular journey into nature's grandeur and local charm. Beginning with an early departure, the scenic drive along the Niagara Parkway sets the stage for awe-inspiring views of the falls. Arriving at Niagara Falls, visitors can marvel at the immense beauty from viewpoints like the Table Rock Welcome Centre and embark on a thrilling boat tour with Hornblower Niagara Cruises. Exploring attractions such as Journey Behind the Falls provides a close encounter with the cascading waters. Afternoon activities might include strolling along Niagara-on-the-Lake's picturesque streets, visiting local wineries, or discovering historic sites like the Floral Clock and Whirlpool Rapids. The day concludes with a leisurely return to Toronto, reflecting on the natural wonder and cultural richness experienced throughout the day trip.

Itinerary

The tour begins and ends in Toronto, Ontario. Please be in Toronto by 4pm on Saturday 20th September.

Please note this is a brief itinerary and guide only, a more detailed itinerary will be emailed to you closer to departure. Lots of spontaneous group activities transpire along the way like Ice Hockey Games, Drinks at a Rooftop Bar or Shopping expeditions to the many nearby shops and markets.
Everything is encouraged but nothing is compulsory!

Check into Hotel from 3pm.
The trip will begin with a Welcome Dinner at 7:00 PM, Time to meet your new friends and get to know each other!
Your day will start with a city tour, featuring iconic Toronto landmarks such as the CN Tower, Ripley’s Aquarium, the Royal Ontario Museum, and Casa Loma. The afternoon will be free for personal exploration, giving you the chance to visit the Distillery District, shop at Eaton Centre, or relax at the Toronto Islands.
Today, we’ll take a day trip to Niagara Falls. After an early start and scenic drive, we’ll view the falls from the Table Rock Welcome Centre and enjoy a boat tour with Hornblower Niagara Cruises. We’ll explore Journey Behind the Falls and, in the afternoon, visit Niagara-on-the-Lake, local wineries, and historic sites. We’ll end the day with a relaxing drive back to Toronto.
The day begins with a school visit in the morning. In the afternoon, you’ll attend the workshop "A Learning Journey: Equity and Inclusion." This session will focus on building and expanding understandings of success, responsibilities, and the Truth and Reconciliation (TRC) Calls to Action, aiming to create space in schools for critical awareness and conversation.

After the workshop, you’ll have free time to explore Toronto. Consider visiting the Art Gallery of Ontario, strolling through Kensington Market, or enjoying a dinner in the vibrant Queen Street West neighbourhood.
Following a school visit in the morning, you’ll attend "The Equity Learning Journey" workshop in the afternoon. This workshop will involve self-reflection on unconscious bias and exploring the significance of one's own learning stance. Participants will gain insights into facilitating courageous conversations.

For the rest of the afternoon and evening, you might catch a show at the Mirvish Theatre, or relax at High Park. Dinner options could include dining at St. Lawrence Market or enjoying a meal at one of the many restaurants in the Entertainment District.
After the morning school visit and the "Inclusive Environments to Support Universal Design for Learning" workshop in the afternoon, you’ll have the evening free.

You might want to visit the Royal Ontario Museum, take a stroll along the Harbourfront, or explore the trendy shops and eateries of the Distillery District. Consider having dinner at a local favorite such as The Carbon Bar or The Porch Toronto.
Your final school visit will take place in the morning, with the last workshop scheduled for the afternoon.
The day will conclude with a Farewell Dinner at 7:00 PM
Today, we conclude our tour. After enjoying your final breakfast in Toronto, you’ll check out of your hotel and prepare for departure. Take this opportunity to reflect on your memorable experiences and say goodbye to the new friends you've made along the way.
